March 2008

Easter was in the month of March this year, quite early in the season actually. Easter falls on a different Sunday from one year to the next, unlike Christmas which is on December 25th every year, regardless of the day of the week. Turns out that Easter Sunday falls on the first Sunday, after the first full moon that occurs after the first day of spring. Boy that's a mouthful!
Easter week, or Semana Santa as it it called in Spanish, signifies the arrival of the Puerto Rican

February 2008

February began with my last few days in Santo Domingo. Oh what a good time I had! I made many new friends and got to practice my spanish a lot. When learning a new language, total immersion is really the best way to go!
On February 6th, I flew to Fort Lauderdale for the beginning of my two-week stay in Florida. It was noticeable that the Fort Lauderdale area was not what it used to be. After a few hurricanes, the housing slump and mortgage crisis, it is a different city. Not as busy

January 2008

January 2008, start of the new year. The first half of the month was busy with charters but the second half was slow, so with airline tickets in hand I was off to the Dominican Republic for some quality down time. I flew into Puerto Plata on the North coast. Although I have been to the DR many times, this was the first time visit to the North coast. I  had heard and read so much about Puerto Plata, Sosua and Cabarete that I wanted to see it first hand. I rented a car at the airport and

December 2007

December, the last month of the year 2007! Time flies by when you're having fun. Speaking of having fun, I did two very pleasant  motor yacht charters in the BVI with fun people along with reasonably good weather. Another fun motor yacht charter started late in December and runs through New Years and early on into January, 2008.
New Year celebrations are popular here in the BVI. The big ones are at Foxy's on Jost Van Dyke and at The Bitter End Yacht Club on Virgin Gorda. My group

November 2007

November is the first full charter month of the season and it was a busy month indeed. The photo above, taken from my balcony shows that not only do I have a spectacular view, but also the number of boats there are in Road Harbour on Tortola. Of course, this only a small sampling of the boats that are in the BVI as there are many other areas that boats are based out of. On the right is Village Cay Marina and on the left is Moorings and Sunsail charter base. Moorings and Sunsail have now
